This is Ninoska (Juan Carlos´sister and Stephanie´s sister-in-law). This was a pic taken last week when we started our project in earnest. I´m trying to upload 2 videos right now that explain a little bit more about the project but they´re loading pretty slowly so I´ll just explain more of about the proj here.
Basically we´re doing a diabetes prevalence project. We´re trying to find out how many people in our town here El Guayabito have diabetes. We need to examine 212 people to determine the prevalence. We examine patients early in the AM because we´re checking their fasting blood sugars. We also check their height, weight, blood pressure and urine(for ketones, glucose and protein). A typical day starts at 4 AM because we see patients from 4:30 AM to 7 AM. The earlier schedules are for families with men who leave home early for work. We then go back to the house for coffee and breakfast (desayuno) and register patients in the morning. We go back to the house for lunch (almuerzo) and go back out in the afternoon to register more patients. God-willing we´ll be done registering by the end of the week. Herrard´s coming soon to shoot a film for our organization. It´ll be about the diabetes situation out here in Honduras.
THanks for praying for the project and for my stay here. I´ve been having fun and learning a lot of Spanish. I definitely understand a lot but hehe my speaking isn´t the best. Hehe I speak in 1 tense (present) practically hehe. But I am learning and thank God I´ve been able to communicate. God has totally provided for me here and I trust that He will continue to watch over the project and see it to its completion. I believe God brought me here even if I wasn´t completely prepared because I was trying to finish my residency apps at the same time. It´s a real blessing to be out here. Please continue to pray for the project and that God continue to bless it and multiply it. Thanks also for praying for my apps. I´ve 8 interviews so far. Praise God :)
It´s been harder to check my email because we´ve been so busy. Will try to check in next week.
Miss you all. Praying for you guys. Love and hugs!
